Eighty-eight Keys
Eighty eight keys
 Ivory and obsidian
 So patient with me,
 Since the very start
 Through every wrong note
 And each mis-count
 You type my music
 In our own secret language
 We together speak
 Now only simple sentences
 Soon to be detailed conversations
 You help me make sense
 Of my world
 Like a handbook
 Or a tour guide
I’m sure the secrets of life
Are tangled in with the strings
 Eighty eight keys
 Of which you possess
 Once they were ice white
 And a dazzling jet black
 Through years of playing
 The smooth gloss now rough
 Where my fingers always press
Oddly enough, it’s what feels right
 What I know
 To play
 Across keys, against others’ music
 We write our own
 That is unique
 A new story
No one else sees through your eyes or mine
So we tell our own song with
 Eighty eight keys
 Ivory and obsidian
