" You can't make something stay that wants to go. You can only love what you have while you have it"

outside the window
an ordinary, unremarkable sight
yet in the tedious classroom
my ownly source of light

wind blows the dry grass
as a bird watches from his cage
hope swelling in his tiny heart
at the thought of one last rampage

to run through the itchy grass
and scream with all my might
may seen worthless to someone else
try being in a cage the majority of your life

the cage can be a lonely place
though always quite surrounded
with those who don't need freedom
who sit attentive and dumbfounded

brought back to life
I hear my name called
I can feel the rush of turning heads
like a wave of sudden cold

the little bird was awakened
of his temporary dream
by the predictable dish of food
brought to him daily

Looking away from the window
this room so bland in compare
yet once back into reality
it's not as bad as I prepared

the bird sings a tune
not unlike despair
but, with a note of satisfaction
freedom's now a lost care

It's about that moment in a classroom where you wish you could fly right out the open window.
