we sat in a corner
to avoid the drums from Africa and the guitars from Ecuador
but I could not deny
that the music was good
so I drew a coi fish on your arm
to express that goodness,
avoiding the ever-present highschool torn-skin (which you lied about so many times)
in purple and green and red and orange
(I stole those sharpies first hour)
and when you wanted to draw,
I pulled my sleeves down,
and held your
hand. warm and dry and clean, half-moon shaped scar on one of the knuckles.
Worried, concerned, love and caring, helping you.
(which you lied about so many times)
