Poison
Heartbreak is running blindly through the rain

searching for who you used to be

She sits in the graffitied bathroom stall, soaked in polluted darkness

She watches the shadows of her mind dance on the walls, playing with the faded messages

 She breathes shallow, thin breaths

Her heart races, lacing her blood with tawdry adrenaline

She thinks of him, thinks of every flaw to that perfect face

 Everything he did wrong

In a futile attempt to hate him

A barren endeavor to feel nothing at all

Her limbs tremor with the impulse to run

An inexorable desire to feel the unfailing pavement

 under her tired legs

She didn’t have the life inside of her

 Everything was gone

The darkness had consumed what was left of the life

She had once held on to so dearly.

She closed her green eyes and

 drifted into the poisoned night.
