When I put my make up on,
I’m concealing the real me.
The mind and body pretending to be what its not.

People seeing what they think is real,
But is really just an act.
The insecurities that rule my life,
The things that make me feel unsafe.

I look in the mirror
And see a different girl looking back at me.
Her smile, which never quite meets her eyes.
The darker part of her, it hides.

Until, I decide to
Un-shield who I am,
My identity will remain
A secret,

And people will still see
What they’ve always seen
Which is not the real me.
