A girl grips the plain brown book
Escaping into a world that barely anyone has had the strength to look.
She has been reading for many hours on end
The written words filing her head.
She read about sorcery, of a world that she will never know.
For her time was almost up, and it was starting to show.
“Are you ready?” the nurse says poking her head through the door
The young girl nervously looks down at the floor.
The operation would start soon, yet she was so young
It had seemed like her life had just begun.
The girl had asked to be put in her favorite piece of clothing
When she said this, the nurse thought that she was joking.
About four hours later, there was a single beep
Telling the doctors that their task was cut off and sadly complete.
Unfortunately, the procedure was not a success
And the girl died in her pretty pink dress.
She awoke as a spirit, and wanted to cry
But something spoke in a soft and surprising sigh.
An angel appeared so glorious and bright
Telling her that it was going to be alright.
Taking her hand, he guided her through
To the world she thought she never knew.
