For a Father
This is a poem to my father
Whom I have wronged and wronged
In lack of thought and fired rage
 Whose warming heart never touched
The cold exterior that grasped me.
Untold feelings of what I should be
Lay crumpled like an old shirt,
 forgotten.
In the midst lay new hope and fears
 And amongst the tears
 Of past and lonely years
It has come to be that I have found
True happiness melts the icy crown
Yet it's there when peace sweeps away
The storm which has plunged us to
 This day.
 Life is like the seasons
 As some might say, but
Our constant April showers keep the flowers at bay.
So I write this for a father
 A love greater than all
A man I hardly know enough to be a faithful daughter.
