Oppressed by Freedom
Yesterday
I was thinking about how we strive for peace and justice
how we struggle through our striving
 with gritty enjoyment
 with grimly grinning determination

I would be happier under an oppressive regime
 because then I would have
 something to push against
 ideals to strive for
I would be able to live
 fully and wonderfully
 like an animal

 Though I am one,
I cannot instigate that instinctive, impulsively spontaneous
 part of me
because I am a Creature of Society
