Looking
We are always
looking
For something
Forgiveness
Of deeds long since past
Acceptance
Into an ever changing world
Appreciation
For work so long endured
Approval
From those we call our friends
Love
A simple little word
A warm lingering kiss
Our keys
because who can keep track of those things
But as we look
outside
We
miss
What's
really
important
We miss
ourselves
We never write
We never call
We
lose
Our
hopes
And our
dreams
Desperately trying to fit that
Obscure vision of normalcy
Just follow the herd
We'll be okay
Who needs originality anyway?
And what is it that sets us
apart?
A short hair cut?
Is it strangely dyed hair
Or contact colored eyes
Or is it something which can not been seen
Something which lies inside
Like a bear in hibernation
Is it the kindness
we show
To those we know the least
Or is it
Doing something we hate
Just to bring a smile to someone's face
Maybe
Its a maturity thing
something that comes with age
That right of passage
That comes in
many ways
But maybe it's not different
Maybe it's all the same
Maybe it's when you're on the outside
looking in
When you can look at yourself
Without changing the angle
To hide what you see within
Maybe it's when
You look at yourself
Straight
in the eyes
And you've found yourself
again
