America is crying,
Innocent people are dying,
We are fighting against ourselves,
Talk about a damn blow beneath the belt.

Have you paid attention lately?
A disaster comes around,
Everyone has to lock up shop,
Bet they didn't think there were thieves around.

We're stealing from ourselves,
Not out of desperation, but pure hatred,
Will this bleeding ever stop?

One extreme to the next,
That's how we are,
We don't notice the starving people on the street,
When we're polishing our cars.

Have you looked around lately?
We're killing our families, our friends,
Brothers, sisters, when will this war against crime end?

I thought America was through with this hate,
Was Dr. King's death a waste?
Tell you what, I'm starting to believe in fate,
So speak your judgments with haste.

America's at war,
There's troops fighting for us,
But we're too busy complaining about the wars,
To realize what they're really fighting for.
