Early
In the August morning
You go outside
Noticing
Something is different
You gaze at the last summer tree
Noticing it's bare
But for one leaf
you walk up to the tree
Cool,wet grass
Swiping your ankle with every step
As if
It wants you to stay
You touch the bark
A thin layer
of gold delight
wrapped tightly
all around the tree
holding in its knowledge
its secrets
The tree stands proud
Not looming but protecting
all who climb its
mighty branches
You grab the first branch
Pull yourself up
Stopping
You feel a sense of
Security, faithfulness
and protective strength
binds you tight
shutting you off from the world
Its just you
and your thoughts
After a few hours
you climb back down
when you hit the ground
you immediately know
Something
Something is very wrong
You look at the tree
Scanning it when suddenly
You gasp
Summer's last leaf
You broke it off
you see it
laying there
cold, dying, and forgotten
you try to pick it up
But
It blows away
never to be seen again
You sigh and go back inside
So
Don't be summers last leaf
Don't let your dreams be crushed
By some unforgiving, careless
person
Remember
Even if you only have
Your last summer leaf
Keep it strong and proud
Never to be crushed and
blown away
By you
or some
forgetful, unforgiving
careless
person

I got this idea from waking up one early august morning and looking out my window, seeing that summer was dying away.
