the parasitic growth
that sweeps insidiously beneath our skin
and pokes us with a sharp needle at any given time
to remind us of its presence.
it betrays our integrity
and questions our potency,
for it is seemingly inevitable.
as we endeavor to avoid it,
it is simply inescapable;
it thrives on our vulnerability.
it is the perpetual spider of gossip
that has caught the world in its web.
