The Urge to Play
Video games are not just pixels on a screen,
they are a break from reality.
The shot of serotonin streams to my head,
as the sound of the green animation rings.
Oh, how it shocks me every time.
The sensation of the stick going left to right,
just waiting for the opponent to fall.
Scrolling through the animations,
searching for the perfect release speed.
Needing the A+ release height,
but the timing stability is going down.
Looking through the dribble moves,
needing the fastest crossover.
Got to have that separation to shoot.
Wandering around the city like a nomad,
just hunting for right game to play.
Stressing over how to upgrade your build,
just to make a new build a week later.
Seeking to find the flawless mixture.
Shooting, Finishing, Defense, Playmaking.
Hoping the mixture will suffice in online games.
Choosing between a dunk or a three,
needing the clutch shot in the REC.
Teammate sets a screen and rolls,
you have him for the wide-open dunk.
Double-tap triangle to throw the lob,
the center catches it and slams it down.
BALL GAME!

I love to play NBA 2k26 and so I wrote this poem about the enjoyment of playing. I used the many aspects of the game to display its appeal.
