The Softest Cage

Phones light up with breaking news.

We lower the brightness.


Children cry through rubble.

We change the channel.


Sirens echo down the street.

We turn up the music.


We gawk at the audience

Of ancient Roman gladiator fights


Yet children gasp 

For food and air on camera

As we scroll to the next video.

The planet is dying, people are being killed, children are being abused, and what do we do? We ignore it. This just kind of puts the point out there: we're not handling our situation well whatsoever. In fact, I don't think we could handle it any worse. Thanks for writing this, even if I might stay up all night plotting how to save humanity from its own ignorance
