When Love Learns Your Name
Someday, somebody will love everything you hate about yourself.
They will learn to love you gently and not because they have to. Not even because they need to, but because they want to.
They’ll look at your face, the one you hate.
The one you hide when cameras come around, the one you look away with when you walk past a mirror.
But they’ll still be looking. And they’ll smile, a gentle smile showing all 32 pearly whites, maybe even a few missing, because they are imperfect too. They love you.
They’ll love your emotions, how vibrant they are. Everything you’ve ever tried hiding about yourself will be revealed, and they will not mind. And they’ll still love you.
They’ll love you so much they’ll start acting like you. The words you say and the way you say them will wrap around their tongue.
They’ll steal your lingo and the way you walk. Your hearts will start beating at the same speed, theirs slightly faster than yours, so they can guess exactly what you’re going to do before you even do it.
And suddenly, everything you hate about yourself will disappear. Not completely, parts of you will still look wrong in the mirror. Distorted pieces of your body in photographs. But someone will love you. And they’ll frame each picture of you on their walls, wondering how an artist can hate such a masterpiece.

I’m a sixteen year old aspiring journalist and author. I’ve been in love with poetry ever since I can remember. The way a picture can be so beautifully illustrated with just the use of words. I dream to have my voice shared and heard by others to inspire and motivate. Poetry is what makes us human. This piece was made to show how our imperfections aren’t always shameful and one day it will truly be cherished. This poem is for the people who have been heartbroken, those who are healing, or those who have yet to find the “one”.
