I am the height of your shadow tall,

I set the pace of each bite and all.

I am the friends you choose to keep,

I am the father your children meet.

I am the adenoma, a silent blight,

Turning your day into endless night.

I hold the reins of all you do,

Sending commands like generals do.

Hence my name, both feared and grand,

I am the one to make you sad or stand.

I nurture your daughter, give her might,

I spark your energy, day and night.

Yet I can strike, the reaper’s call,

The smallest force, yet affecting all.

The author's comments:

During a summer research program, I discovered the pituitary gland and became fascinated by how such a tiny organ could have such a profound effect on the body and mind. This inspired me to write a poem that personifies the gland, capturing its powerful yet often invisible influence on our emotions, energy, and overall well-being.
