Mon Coeur
Hold me in the warmth of your embrace,
guarded by the wool of your arms.
Lie with me on the shining ocean shores,
together as long as the sun does shine.
Touch me with firmness of your hand,
tracing the ocean sold across my face.
Talk to me under the light of the evening sun,
telling me of your life, your fears, your loves.
Know me, know all of me, all that I am and why I am.
Know me so that you may love me.
Love me, love my personality, my quirks, my oddities.
Love me and never hurt me.
Let us gallop down the cobble stone streets,
swim in the clear blue sea,
resting along the vine-covered walls.
Let us walk through the mist of dusk,
safe in each other’s grasp.
Let us run through the autumn-kissed vineyards,
lost in the endless fields of lavender.
Let us, as night falls, lock ourselves away in the castles above,
pressed against each other before a roaring fire.
Let us go hand in hand, arm in arm,
true love with true love.
Me and you.
You and me.
Be with me and I with you.

Mon Coeur (French for “My Heart”) is an emphatic plea for a type of love, a mystical romance, that is fast disappearing in our modern world. This poem evokes a blissful romp through the “Old World” of Europe, fostering a truly love-filled relationship, one of understanding and unconditional surrender to the other.
