The Last Days of June
The days stretch too long,
but too short at the same time.
Sun on my skin,
wind in my hair,
and everything feels sharper,
louder, warmer, brighter.
Friends laugh in the street,
voices chasing the sky,
and I feel both part of it
and separate,
watching it all glow golden
before it eventually fades.
I memorize these moments,
tiny pockets of light,
so I can carry them
when school starts again,
when the weight returns.
