Foreign land and unknown words

Light radiating onto the street

Happy chatter jingles all around

But a dark secret lies beneath

Backpack opened, wallet exposed

The thief steals into the night

Blood spills and crowds cheer

Gladiator red painted on sandy white

Excitement lingers in the air

But a dark secret lies beneath

Slaves taken, Jerusalem looted

The Romans steal into the night

Skyscrapers erected and jets roar

Modern amenities flooding in

An easy life enjoyed by all

But a dark secret lies beneath

Giants felled, nature abused

Homo Sapiens steal into the future

History repeats…lessons forgotten

The author's comments:

Hi, my name is Oliver and I am a budding poet and writer. In my spare time I enjoy to read, play tennis, and code. The poem "Stolen" is based on a true story. In Italy, my family and I encountered a group of pickpockets, which is what inspired me to write this poem. It describes how, throughout history, there have been many thieves who steal and disappear into the night. I hope you enjoy!
