Bartholomew
Hi! I’m Bartholomew,
And I hope I’m not disturbing you.
I may look a bit like a rat,
But don’t worry, I am a cat.
Please adopt me!
I promise to be your friend,
Together until the end.
Just look at my cute smile!
Can you tell I’ve just walked a mile?
Even though I’m a stray kitty,
I swear I’m not nitty.
I can cook, clean, and run you a nice bath,
Forever making your friends laugh.
Please, please, please take me in!
I don’t want to sleep in the smelly bin.

My name is Aleksandra Nowacka, and I am seventeen years old and am trying to get back into writing. I used to write a lot of stories and poems when I was younger, but then stopped because I thought it was cringey. Writing brings me peace and comfort.
This is a poem that tackles the difficult subject of cats being abandoned by their owners and thrown out into the streets with some humour. Bartholomew is a cat that seeks shelter in a trash can after being abandoned by his owner. He is an ugly cat with human-like facial features and a wide smile, somewhat inspired by the cat from Alice in Wonderland.
