Why I Hate Poetry
I hate poetry.
I hate making lists
and metaphors about nature.
I hate finding words,
playing with sounds,
and experimenting with lyrics.
All of it.
I hate that it makes writing more complicated
because it's not as casual as a free write,
not as classy as an essay.
I hate the drag
that is editing, formating, and perfecting.
Working towards a final copy
that can never be perfect.
I hate poetry
because it doesn’t come with a formula to follow.
There is no right answer, there is no perfect score.
I hate poetry, but here I am making the lists,
and writing another poem.
