Hand-me-Down
Piecing together a scattered family
Hundreds or thousands of miles removed
One west, two southeast
Only me and my mom remaining
The gold band stretching from
Her finger to his, and then his to mine
The three diamonds more together
Than the three of us, flesh and blood
Scratches and marks grow my the month
An unfortunate symptom of it’s longevity
Microscopic flakes of gold fertilize the carpeting
Sure to sprout more memories
And giving good energy
Down the trunk of our family tree
Providing safety to those growing
And stability to those finished
Continuing a tradition
Older than my parents
To hopefully live on
And be passed on by me

This was about my family, which is largely separated by physical and emotional distance, and the ring that's been passed down since long before I was born.
