The Vulture Girl
In the burning-hot, dry savanna of Ayod,
Pinpointed in the northeast of South Sudan,
Lies a famine, collapsed child,
Struggling to reach the feeding center
She was eager to seek for assistance
She was determined to save herself from death
But with her battle against the sun and starvation,
She took defeat from the non-stop heat
With the visible ribs protruding,
The scrawny legs and arms showing,
The nearby vulture stares at the child,
Considering her to be its next prey
The traveling photographer patiently waits,
Until the vulture approaches the child more.
But the photographer himself did not assist her
He only scared the vulture away after the picture.
With one picture taken leading to controversy,
The photographer suicides with regrets
Leading to the question everyone had been wondering,
Is the little girl okay?
