Still
My friend once dared me
To visit the still, eerie house down the street.
Even though
I don’t want to. Still,
She’s my friend.
Another time she asked me
To pay for her meal.
But afterwards,
I didn’t have enough money for myself. Still,
She’s my friend.
One day she left
With others she deemed “better friends.”
I could’ve been angry at her. But still,
She’s my friend.

This poem was inspired by another poem: Zona, Dead Man's Float by Jim Harrison. My experiences with some of my friends in elementary school also inspired some of the concepts and ideas that I wrote about. I always felt helpless and alone in those friendships and I thought it would be a wonderful idea to write my feelings into them. I hope this poem will speak to and relate with the readers who feel the same way I had felt before.
