The end of the storm
Eventually,
Every storm ends
Taking all of its horror with it
No more thunder booming through the night,
No more rain drenching you the bone,
No more wind blowing away the umbrella that tries to keep you dry
The sky won’t be gray and miserable
Rain drops won’t cloud your window
Your lights won’t be flickering
You won’t need to worry about the trees crashing to the ground
Or how close you are to the lightning
Nor will you need to wrap yourself up in jackets and scarves
When the storm ends,
You’ll be safe and warm
You won’t be huddled up with your family
All standing together on the porch
Watching the lightning light up the sky
You won’t need to sit with your dog all night
To comfort them, to tell them “everything will be okay”
Because they’re terrified of the thunder
You won’t sprint all the way home with your friends
In the constant pattering of the pouring rain
Trying against all logic to stay dry
Eventually,
Every storm ends
Taking all of its beauty with it
