the mounatins
The forest evergreens, aspens, a river running down the side of the trail
Deers grazing in the meadow up ahead birds chirping a song
Falcons circling the air waiting to strike an unsuspecting victim for its next meal
Mountains behind the meadow mountain goats climbing to the top,
Squirrels running at your feet, the sun setting making room for the stars and moon
Owls hooting, raccoons looking for scraps, bears waking up to find food
Hundreds of stars in the sky, a cool breeze, the dim light of the moon
The approaching day on the horizon
“What should we do tomorrow,” my friend asks
“Just keep on going to the mountains or we can stay here and fish the stream” I reply
“I think we should keep walking to the mountains there is a lake around there where we can fish”
We continue to the mountains you can see the moss on the rocks and can feel the rough surface of the mountain. Then up the trail at the top, you can look down and see how far you have come the forest and meadow below you.
The cool mountain air blowing in your face then you turn and continue on the trail to a lake, catching fish for dinner and setting up camp the next day you will go home wishing you could stay in the wilderness where there is freedom from the rules of work, school, and home were you can do almost anything you want were a new light shines on the world around you and makes you appreciate the land and what you have.
