Another Monday
Mom?
Hello?
Are you alright?
Please put down the bottle even if it's just for tonight
I miss you
Do you miss me to?
Do your eyes sting when you think about me?
Or are you sitting with your dog smiling with glee?
It's been 5 months since we've spoken
There's never a day where my heart isn't broken
aching for your hugs
but instead getting silent shrugs
no one knowing what to say
but I'll tell them about how I'm okay
about how I don't miss you any more
how when you left we locked that door
you sent me a letter
telling me about how you're better
but words fly around going up and down
you know it's a very small town
whispers everywhere I go
but they don't actually know
all the long nights crying
how when you left my hope stopped surviving
I wish I could go back to May
It was the last time your blood wasn't poisoned with Chardonnay
We had conversations then
they didn't end with us screaming until 10
we actually joked
and I'll admit I got a little chocked
caught on a dream
that we could someday be on the same team
but sometimes I think you knew
you couldn't really make the switch from fizzling beer to Mt. Dew
I think about you all the time
all your things are fading with dust and grime
maybe you'll come back clean
but I have to remember you'll always feen
pining after a drop of intoxicating delight
our family is now completely out of your sight
so good night mom
maybe next time you'll call me
and I'll be waiting
for you to drag yourself out of that intoxicating sea
