Masked
Sometimes I laugh because I’m nervous
other times I laugh to tune out noises
noises within myself that scream that shout trying to be heard
but laughter oh laughter is a sweeter sound
a sound I’d rather hear
one I know others would rather hear
So it’s the one i let out
we keep in the screams
we cage those no one gets a key
don’t even know where I left it
probably lost it along with whatever came before this laugh
one day though I’ll get tired of this laugh and try to cage it too
I know one day this painted on joyful persona will be washed away by this rain called time
