S.U.I.C.I.D.E.

“S”

Struggle

You struggle with hearing thoughts in your head

“Suicide”

A word that describes a deep amount of

Pain

Heartbreak

Fear

Hopelessness

Helplessness

All meshed to become a numbing fog within your bones

“U”

Unreal

How unreal can it feel?

It’s unreal to think that 20% of high school students feel death is upon their shoulders

How unreal is it to see someone struggling so deeply hiding under a fake smile?

How unreal is it to know there is pain without blood

But they both scar the same?

“I”

Ignore

Ignoring the signs

“Youre overreacting”

“Youre being too sensitive”

You start closing off

“Stop being so negative”

“Stop being uptight”

You feel all alone

“Youre to young to be tired”

“Your life isn’t that hard”

“Just snap out of it!”

A fake smile appears

As you hold it all in

Ignoring the tears

Ignoring the pain

Just hold it together

Just hold it all in

All the words that are said

Are all in your head!

“C”

Call

People tell you to call

Call 911

Call 988

Call a loved one

Call a close friend

Call anyone you can

But even when you try so hard

You can’t seem reach the phone

“I”

Impact

Suicide makes an impact

Makes an impact on people you love

But more so

Makes an impact on yourself

“D”

Drowning

Drowning in the thoughts

Drowning in the tears

Drowning in the fear

You are just drowning

And there is no escape

No escape from the thoughts in your mind

“E”

Ending

Finally

It’s over

The author's comments:

This piece was a english project about "What happens when we don't look away?". I wrote about suicide in teens which is a sensitive topic. But I thought that if people hear a hard side of suicide it will not only help others feel like their not alone but also spread awareness about how people who struggle with suicide think

Visit www.teenink.com/HealthResources if you or a loved one are feeling depressed or have thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
