The Forest
The trees are tall with hues between yellow and red
Small spots of green grass are covered in leaves
An earthy smell surrounds me from the evening rain
Rays of sun shoot through bare spots in the blanket of leaves
It's never quite here, but always peaceful
Sometimes you hear the song of a bird
Maybe a squirrel scurrying though the trees
I embrace the beauty of it all with a grin spread across my face
A small gust of wind sweeps by and gives me a chill
I take a breath
My eyes open to a sad, dark reality
Then I look into the dark night and head inside
Time to face another restless night
