Butterflies

I once dreamt of butterflies

Glittering an icy pasture dressed in holly.

Their golden, charcoal, citrus wings,

Fluttering like a perfect nebulous behind my eyes.

I drink from the beautiful melancholy

While the cold wind sings.

Then, as my transient vision dies,

I stir from prudent slumber

And see the butterflies.
