Rêverie
drop drop
below the awning
flows the music of intermittent water drops
undulating ripples of Debussy’s reverie in the air
andantino, b flat, E major, two bars of forte
and a wisp of melancholy offering peace
may this euphonious daydream blur my vision
for this world is unbecoming of my overreaching desires
sunrise
glistening dew on newly budded fern
a breeze of petrichor arching over morning haze
seasonal olfaction that rings my doorbell once in a while:
before the daffodils blossom comes geosmin, before the first snow comes pine scent
how is it, that the ostentatious glamor of worldly desires does not suffice for me
while an idyllic daybreak greeting from nature is enough to deluge my yearning
oh may this dearth of repose not cajole me to the state of ignorance
as reconciliation with pleasures leads the way to compromise with poignancy
for now, nevertheless,
setting everything aside with an insuppressible smile
I dream of finding for myself a nice cup of spring…

This poem captures both the reality and dreams of life. While it is hard to view the immediate events that accompany life as always being beautiful, there are short yet precious moments that can make life endurable, if not pleasurable. For me, those moments come from nature. When I see the season change from winter to spring, when the rain clears the city air, when I feel the peace presented by the sky, earth, sun, and air. Sometimes, nature alone is enough to make me feel like I am dreaming, away from reality like the reverie beautifully pictured by Debussy's piano.
