Winter
White is the color of fresh winter ice.
White is the color of the meager mice.
White is the eyes of the creatures who stare.
It’s in the bite that arrives with the air.
White is the color of the moon that gleams so brightly.
The pale face that returns to them nightly.
White reflects off the dim leaves,
Over the dark shadows, beneath the tall trees.
White is the color of the snow that lay,
Tucking all the fallen leaves away.
White sinks into the river water like a fallen blanket.
Blocking the animals who once drank from it.
White is the powdered dust upon the pinecones.
White is the glitter of the blizzard who shone.
White is the winter that was once sewn.
Winter is my favorite season. The cold air, and white snow is something that will always mean so much to me, coming from the midwest. Reminds me of childhood.
