Where the fish don't swim
The fish go by, passing me, leaving me behind
I stay, still in place, unmoving
Moments later they are out of sight
and it seems as if the time has flown by
My fins start their attempt at propelling me forward
but instead they flail in the water pathetically
They told me it was easy
They expected that it would be
Everyone else can, why can’t I
Why must I try so much harder
and them still get so much farther
They must all be so much smarter
Why should I even bother
I swim where the fish don’t swim
Where the coral doesn’t grow
Where the light is dim
But this path is just the one not yet taken
The one of a struggle and possibility not mistaken
I swim where the fish don’t swim
This piece is written about constantly trying to just keep up when it comes so easily to everybody else and everyone expects it should be the same for you.
