The Building of My
It’s what my parents have pushed me for since I was 10
It’s what my tutors have trained me for since I was 12
It’s what my friends have talked about since I was 14
It’s what my brother entered since I was 16
It’s what I’ll enter when I am 18
But it’s just a building with fancy books,
Fancy teachers
Fancy rooms
Fancy desks
And fancy students
Students like me with parents, tutors, friends, and brothers
Students like me who’ve seen nothing but the building for 18 years.

This piece was inspired by the direction schools and the subsequent community around me has seemingly steered me in, a direction that I sometimes feel like I cannot control.
