Underestimated
Underestimated
by teachers and parents
Underestimated
by everyone you meet
Underrepresented
in the society,
no say in the decisions made by the adults
Misinterpreted
We are seen as reckless
and untrustworthy
and irresponsible
We are like prisoners
What a lie.
We are the leaders of tomorrow
Why can’t you learn to trust us?
Why can’t you learn to see us behind our bars of steel?
We’re right here, our chains dragged across the floor
We are trying to save the world
Save it from
You
I refuse to become a pawn
I refuse to become a disciple of a broken country-
A broken world
We are like prisoners
Who never did anything wrong
Underestimated.
Underrepresented.
Misinterpreted.
We won’t have it anymore.
I was assigned to write a poem about living in 2022 as a teenager!
