The Orchard
THE ORCHARD
¨My long two-pointed ladder's sticking through a tree
Toward heaven still, there's a barrel I didn't fill.
Beside it, there may be two or three
Apples I didn't pick upon [ the ground].¨
The smell of apples filled the air
A heavenly aroma picked up by my nose
Upon this tree which I chose.
I plucked the fruit from the tree, to my amaze I see.
The apples glistened in the morning sun
Like a diamond shining in my hand.
As my teeth bit down on the smooth silky skin
A satisfying crunch gave me chills, moving down my spine,
This juicy apple was all mine.
I licked my lips as juice crawled down my face
Like raindrops on a window
I filled my basket with apples, so many it began to overflow.
The sound of chatter filled the orchard
as families gathered around the trees.
