Friendship Bracelets
I know It’ll be okay (I hope it will)
I’m remembering you again-
(I’m talking to walls, sending texts to empty inboxes-
I’m letting the bracelets you made hang off my wrists permanently)
I keep having dreams where you fold the bracelets into my hands-
(Or dreams where she takes you away
and crushes my dream
and crushes our meaning)
I keep sliding the bracelets over my wrists-
(I keep twisting until circulation cuts)
I like to stare at the glittery, metallic beads
(it’s a reminder of…something)
I like to take hard plastic and string into my hands
to have what we had
feel what we felt
remember how it was
I like to tell myself hopeful things.
(fake things.)
Remember those times in your room?
(I do.)
you would play music over broken, static speakers
and turn off lights
and I finally had room to talk
and I finally had room to breath
(I tried to write about it once
you’ll never see it)
I keep looking at those bracelets wrapped around my wrists
I keep remembering you
