My Heart

My heart is a burden
It can’t seem to let go
Of those I’ve lost
And those who left
It cries out to me
Asking me to reach out
To tell them
To ask them
To let them know
I push it down
Telling my heart what would happen
It never listens
So there it stays
Telling me what could have happened
What could have been
But I don’t focus on the past
The future is where I look
