"It's true, Batsy! I know everything. And kinda like the kid who peeks at his Christmas presents, I must admit, it’s sadly anti-climactic. Behind all the sturm and batarangs, you’re just a little boy in a playsuit, crying for mommy and daddy!" — Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker

“Smile, because it confuses people. Smile, because it’s easier than explaining what is killing you inside.” ― The Joker

“Let’s put a smile on that face!” – The Joker

They danced through the grass,

Their movements seemed as if they were limitless,

They looked to be the embodiment of freedom,

The bright stars of the night shined right down 0n them,

Their body flowed as if they had become one with the blades of grass or the slaps of harsh wind,

They were androgynous,

Their body lithe but muscular,

Hair short but at the same time long,

Their movements held so much intensity,

It was as if you could feel the waves of emotion rolling from their body,

During this moment they seemed to be one with the world,

The moon was bright and arching almost as if it was glaring down at the beautiful dancer with jealousy,

The stars danced along with the dancer,

The world was dancing in joy as the dancer arched and bowed arms and legs moving freely,

The moment was enticing in every way, the stars were dancing,

the moon was bright,

the wind was harsh but gentle the moment was perfect.

As the wind stopped moving so did the dancer they became still and unmoving,

Their skin was pale,

Eyes so many colors and yet still so dull,

Their pupils were so small they looked to be nonexistent.

They stood by a tree,

Their feet didn’t look as if they were touching the floor,

Almost as if they were floating,

But then we see the rope around their neck,

A stark contrast to their pale skin,

Realization hits that they were not dancing but pleading with the world to set them free,

To set it free from their manipulator that was the wind,

They were not dancing but rather begging,

If the glistening tears on their face were words then they yelled that their death was guaranteed,

Going back the moon had not been glaring but smirking maliciously,

The stars were laughing the world suddenly became so much colder and darker,

The dance from before now was so much sharper so much more forced like they had been a puppet and the world the manipulator,

The dance was not a dance but rather a plea to be set free, you can hear their voice in the wind,

You hear the pleas of,

Set me free,

Set me free,

Please, oh, please,

Set me free,

Set me free,

Set me free,

Their body then stops pleading,

As if realizing that no one is coming to free them,

Their soul stands up and stops kneeling,

Even though they look like they would rather start screaming,

They let the world eat them,

The tree that their body hung from reached out its branches and wrapped them around the body,

The trunk of the tree and the body fusing,

Now one with the earth,

They will never be set free,

They are no longer pleading,

They give in, to the world’s glee.
