Abandoned
Life has been loved here,
Life has been lost here,
Many do belong here,
Many long to stray from here,
Walls made of betrayal,
Sandalwood floors rotting with lies,
Windows stained, breaking, they cry,
Ocean spray spattered and taunting,
Waves keeping seaweed at bay,
Shells wash ashore,
Praying to be swept back away,
One waiting inside, someday, someday,
Wind squeezes through every splinter,
Shivering each log,
Through countless winters,
Adjacent summers, springs, and falls,
Children who used the play,
Different from before,
No longer residing inside,
Only they can say the price they paid,
For one had an affair,
For one cut off a connection between another,
The walls containing those secrets stay silent,
Quiet, not even a pin could be unheard,
Left alone to bathe in the sorrow,
Echoing for miles around,
At night the owls hunt,
Silent screams heard from their burrows,
Silently flying, higher, higher,
Above the clouds, flying higher,
Stuck in one place, the foundation frowns,
The owl keeps flying, never to come down.
This was based off a writing prompt and never got a proper name, so I hope it reads good!
