Halter
Cab rides in silence
Solo train rides
Moments of transient nature
Unrecognized
Underlooked
A state of limbo
An intermission
Awaiting life's unfolding
Then again, isn't this life as well?
How engrossed are we in this game?
Society’s creation
That we fail to recognize and appreciate
Every moment of the day
On the train back to boarding school, winter loomed ahead. In the past half hour, I had been glued to my phone, browsing through meaningless tick-tocks and surface-level Instagram posts that hadn't any relevance to me. With my phone screen blackened and the charging indicator red, I had no choice but to look around and take in my surroundings. It wasn't long before an epiphany struck me. The train was traveling through one of the most breathtaking landscapes. In a ribbon of tumulus alps and miniature villages, it wound through sweeping meadows. With the onset of snow, the once lush greenery now wore a thin, white veil. In due course, the windows began to fog up as a white mist rolled in. It felt as if winter had touched and embraced me with it's comforting, ephemeral nature. All others aboard were seamlessly tethered to their devices, oblivious to this elusive moment. I reached for my notebook and pen and began to record this moment of epiphany. As a result, this poem was born. Moments such as these often go unnoticed in life. The race of life consumes us, we are so caught up in the goal, the finish line, that we fail to recognize and appreciate the journey.
