Drowning Machine
The James must’ve claimed four
This summer: a low head dam looks
Safe from above, half-height illusion
Sucking orange kayak in the spin
Cycle, dominant gravity
Ending life with brevity.
Paddling towards the drop
Must have been euphoric,
Ahead crisp rapids & stone eddies;
Each stroke propelled the four
Towards a death
By underestimation.
Seated on my rock,
I think the world is the kayaker,
And you are the dam.
I tried to write a love poem, but found normal smilies and metaphors too cliche. Real love for a person is one of the hardest things to express completely.
