Fruit of the Earth
Understand how nice it would be
If the snakes of the world turned into trees
Of maple, chestnut, fig, and wisteria
Take with your venomous roots
Only to sprout your recompense of fruits
Nourish the ground with your stolen bounty
Give back what you’ve taken from me

When I first started thinking of this poem, I was toying around with the idea of salvation and who could or couldn't receive it. I eventually stumbled to the idea of whether the devil could receive salvation and what that might look like. this is why I included metaphors such as snacks and venom. Just as he has taken and used, he must also give recompense to be forgiven for his actions.
