Good and Bad Days
To put on a brave face when the world is at odds with you,
Takes courage,
Especially on your worst days.
The first thing I hear as I slowly roll out of bed,
Thunder.
Something about the darkness of a storm,
Immediately changes my perspective.
And the day hasn’t even begun.
One thing goes wrong,
Then another.
On the soccer field,
“You need to do better.”
In the classroom, test grades are distributed.
“You should’ve studied harder.”
Everything seems as if it is working against me.
I remember this day that turned out this way.
I remember the feeling of defeat,
With aches all over my body and tears ready to break.
Yesterday.
Yesterday was a bad day.
To pull out the strength from in you,
Takes courage,
Even on your best days.
The first thing I see as I roll out of bed and open my shade,
Sunrise.
Purple, pink, blue, orange, yellow.
Something about the sky.
Along with waking up surrounded by photos scattered around my room.
When you take a closer look,
Happiness and joy is seen within each of them.
Good exists everywhere you look for it.
The good in my life exists throughout my camera roll.
Memories, friends, family, and good times never fail to create a reality.
Beneath the burden, there is always opportunity for better.
There is always another chance.
There is always tomorrow.
Today was a good day.

The artifact that I created for this assignment was a poem. The title of my poem is “Good and Bad Days” because I personally struggle with days that feel like everyone and the universe is against me while other days feel like everyone and everything is on my team. I had some difficulty putting my thoughts together originally but the final poem contains one day last week that was awful. I start off describing the beginning of it and I end that section with “yesterday was a bad day.” The next couple lines read something along the lines of “your best days” which was completely intentional because if you go back to the first stanza, the third line reads, “especially on your worst days.” I meant to do this because I wanted to create some type of repetition or parallel within the writing to connect the “bad day” and “good day.”
