Pelicans
Here, where I’m
Buried under
layers of sand
and the blessing
of a brutal sun
Boiling my skin into butter,
I squawk at the circling pelicans
in syncopation with their small talk
The pronunciations of poems and love,
What is left for the lakes,
does not meet the buoyant ballads
that bleed from the sea
And wash up with
plastic on the shore
A message
in a bottle
waiting
to be uncorked
