You’re So Pretty, They’d Say.
But am I really?
Sure, some parts of me are pretty.
I really like my eyes
and the way my hair curves around my face.
I like my body -- when I am holding my breath.
I like my overall appearance,
but not in photos,
No, never on film,
and never in the light.
Only in the dark,
when my insecurities are concealed.
The way my skin texture isn’t consistent across my face,
and the way my nose bridge goes the opposite way.
The opposite way of those small,
perfectly curved noses.
The noses of the girls in the
virtual world,
the girls that
don’t really exist.
But they must exist
because they never leave my mind.
I wish I could feel the pretty --
the pretty they say is in me.

This poem is special to me because with the amount of social media usage nowadays, it is very hard for young women, especially teen girls, to have a sense of security and understand what is real and what is fake. This poem means a lot to me, so please enjoy it.
