We stood at the edge of the world,

looking over the land below.

The river shimmered in your light,

and sounds of water trickling

Followed us from the streams long passed.

You gave off light,

glowing brighter than any star

as you forged your own path.
You took my hand to follow you,

And so I did.

Once, you had turned to look at me.

You made light so bright that I was blinded,

But I didn’t mind it like I should’ve.

Your light hid away my dark surroundings

And you rescued me from the night.

Oh, how bright.

The story of this one can be interpreted differently and some might see it as blind passion or respect for someone, but that isn’t what I wanted to focus on. This poem uses imagery to tell a story and includes metaphors to emphasize the narrator’s perspective of the story.

Water is usually seen as something flexible and easily adjusted, but when water trickles it breaks and separates, causing a spark of chaos. The water trickling from streams long passed was a representation of the narrator’s troubles and mindset before, and since the sound followed them it meant they were still thinking about it. The way the person’s light shimmered on the river showed how the person had affected the person, making their mindset and life better.

The last passage talks about how once the person had looked back to the narrator and it blinded them. Though the person’s light helped the narrator, it also caused them to ignore their issues and become “blind” to the things happening around them. The night represented life before the person came into their world.
