Birthdays
First birthday
Multiple guests
Cake and celebration
Probably the best
Third birthday
Still quite nice
Food and decorations
Presents at a price
Fifth birthday
Now we’re getting somewhere
Excitement all around
Glee and joy are the only sound
Seventh birthday
Couldn’t be better
At the age to do exciting things
Probably able to read birthday letters
Ninth birthday
Waiting eagerly for the day became waiting for any other
Presents were received with grateful hearts and glee
But the authentic laughter was replaced by another
Eleventh birthday
The excitement died down
The day passed by like the day before and the day after
But you could still hear the sound of laughter
Thirteen
A joyful day
One more year in life, played
But celebrations have begun to fade
Fourteen now, going on fifteen
Soon to be the birthday boy once again
But it seems like everyone else cares more than I
And I’ll hold that close until the day I die
Birthdays are special
Birthdays are unique
That day is your day
Own it with all your heart
Because on your birthday
All that matters
Are your family and friends
And the shared laughter

As I grew older, I began to feel less and less excited about my own birthday. Putting this into words, I guess this piece is a note to myself, that my day is a special day.
