Colors
Once upon a time
I was filled to the brim with colors
Swirling and swooping
Worlds of my own imagination
Songs of my own making
Mystical, magical realms all my own
My joy was unbridled
A spatter on a canvas
But you wanted neat, straight lines and so
I learned to quiet
And dim
And break
And bend
And cover the universes I made
With the grid you wanted
You wanted order
You held me for too long
And so when you finally
Stepped back from my worlds
And told me to make them my own
I stared blankly at the paper
And drew nothing but
The neat, straight
Lines you told me
To make

I'm a freshman in high school, and I love writing, especially short stories and poems.
